What is Red and Near-Infrared Light Therapy?

The use of natural light wavelengths to stimulate mitochondrial activity in cells, causing an upregulation of collagen and elastin production. This cellular response causes fine lines to soften, improves tone and texture, and brightens the skin.

The red and near-infrared light boosts specific cellular activity responsible for repair and rejuvenation, enhancing cell renewal and reversing the ageing process.

What results can I expect from RedGen Rejuvenate?

After a single treatment, clinical studies show improved skin hydration, brightness and smoothness.

The RedGen Rejuvenate course consists of 5 treatment sessions lasting 1-2 weeks, after which stronger, longer lasting results are observed. We follow the science, and clinical studies report desired results are achieved after 2-3 weeks of consistent treatment. We recommend x10 treatments for best and desired results.

After 4-5 sessions you will start to notice more changes as the skin positively reacts to the light therapy. Everyone's skin is different, but you will see noticeable results during, and especially after you have completed the RedGen Rejuvenate course. Our clients have experienced a range of excellent results; wrinkle reduction, smoother more evenly toned skin, and a brighter complexion, with plenty of compliments from friends and family.

What happens during this treatment?

After an initial assessment we agree a treatment time-frame customised to you. Treatment time varies from 10-15 minutes and this will be discussed with you prior to each session. Following your specific plan, our powerful full-body panel will deliver the results you want to achieve.

Treatment will be lying down with goggles provided to protect your eyes. A towel and/or dressing robe will be available if needed.

How long will the results last?

Results may vary according to skin type, lifestyle and overall current health. However, after following our treatment plan all of our clients have experienced noticeable results.

Once you have completed the RedGen Rejuvenate course, you will notice continued benefits for approximately 6-8 weeks, depending on lifestyle, nutrition and environmental factors. We advise to follow your normal skincare routine with the addition of wearing SPF to protect your skin from harmful UV rays and you'll experience the positive longer term benefits red light therapy has on your skin health.

A maintenance programme post-treatment can be discussed after you complete your course.

How can I optimise my results?

To optimise your treatment, we advise that you attend your appointment on arrival with cleansed skin; no makeup or other skincare products to ensure the light can penetrate your skin effectively.

For best results, we advise that treatment is minimum 3-4 times per week until the course is completed. This will be discussed in detail with you on your initial appointment.

You can apply products after treatment, such as moisturiser and hyaluronic acid as this can help retain moisture and hydration. SPF is also advised to protect your skin from harmful UV rays and maximise the benefits provided by the red and near infrared light wavelengths.

Are there any side effects?

Red and Near-Infrared Light Therapy is generally considered a very safe and non-invasive treatment with few side effects. Some things to note post
treatment include:

Heat sensation- some people may experience a mild sensation of heat in the treated area, but this is usually well-tolerated.

Skin redness- slight redness can occur over the treated area, but this is short-lived and usually resides within 1-2 hours post treatment

Eye strain- like any bright light, prolonged exposure can cause some eye strain, but we recommend goggles to be worn which are provided.

Who is not suitable for Red Light Therapy?

Although Red Light Therapy is a safe and non-invasive treatment backed by clinical studies, certain individuals should exercise caution or avoid using it altogether:

Pregnant Women: The effects of red light therapy on pregnant women and unborn babies have not been extensively studied, so it's recommended that pregnant women avoid using it.

People with Light Sensitivity: Individuals who are sensitive to light, such as those with eye conditions like retinitis pigmentosa, should be cautious when using red light therapy, especially near the eyes.

Cancer Patients: While some studies suggest that red light therapy may have benefits for cancer patients, it's essential for individuals undergoing cancer treatment to consult their healthcare provider before using red light therapy, as it may interfere with certain treatments.

Individuals with Skin Conditions: Those with skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or lupus should consult a dermatologist before using red light therapy, as it may exacerbate these conditions.

Medication and Treatment Interactions: Individuals taking photosensitising medications or undergoing light-sensitive treatments should consult their healthcare provider before using red light therapy, as it may interact with these medications or treatments.

Always consult a healthcare professional before starting red light
therapy, especially if you have any underlying health concerns or conditions.

What is RedGen Rehab?

A treatment programme consisting of red and deep near-infrared light therapy specifically using the healing aspects of near-infrared light. Utilising scientifically proven wavelengths in the 810-850nm range, this light spectrum is absorbed deeper into tissues, accelerating recovery from injury, reducing pain and inflammation, and promotes tissue healing.

Treatment will be tailored to your specific needs on a session by session basis, dependent on the injury or issue being treated.

We do advise that treatment sessions are booked at a minimum 2-3 times per week for more effective results.

How long is the treatment time?

Treatment time lasts approximately 15-25 minutes depending on the issue being treated

Benefits of short-term red and near-infrared light therapy

Immediate Pain Relief:

Endorphin Release: Red and near-infrared light therapy can stimulate the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers, which may result in quick pain relief after just a few sessions.

Nerve Calming: The therapy can reduce nerve irritation, making it particularly helpful for acute pain from injuries, muscle strains, or flare-ups in chronic conditions like arthritis.

Reduced Inflammation:

Anti-Inflammatory Effects: Short-term use can decrease inflammation by reducing the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and promoting blood circulation. This can help with conditions like tendonitis, sprains, or inflammatory flare-ups in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis.

Faster Recovery: For acute injuries or inflammation, red and near-infrared light therapy can speed up recovery by promoting oxygenation and blood flow to the affected area, which helps clear out inflammatory byproducts and promotes healing.

Improved Circulation:

Vasodilation: Short-term exposure to RLT and NIR light increases blood flow and circulation to the affected tissues. This enhances nutrient delivery and waste removal, which can quickly reduce swelling and improve tissue health.

Faster Healing: Better circulation means that injuries and inflamed areas can heal more quickly, even after just a few sessions.

Muscle Relaxation:

Reduced Muscle Tension: RLT and NIR light can promote relaxation of tight muscles by improving blood flow and reducing muscle soreness, making it useful for conditions like tension headaches or back pain caused by muscle strain.

Improved Flexibility: Short-term use can also help improve range of motion and flexibility by reducing stiffness in affected muscles and joints.

Cellular Energy Boost:

Increased ATP Production: The light stimulates mitochondria in cells to produce more ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy currency of the cell. This boosts cellular function and promotes tissue repair, leading to quicker improvements in pain and inflammation after just a few treatments.

Safe and Non-Invasive:

Minimal Side Effects: Short-term use of red and near-infrared light therapy is generally safe and has few side effects. It is non-invasive, making it an excellent option for those looking for immediate, low-risk pain relief without medications or invasive procedures.

What types of issues can the RedGen Rehab programme help with?

Red and Near-Infrared Light Therapy naturally reduces inflammation and pain. This treatment programme helps people specifically with acute pain and inflammation from injuries, joint pain flare-up from osteoarthritis, lower back, shoulder and neck pain.

It is particularly effective in helping reduce symptoms associated with chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and joint osteoarthritis.

Through cellular regeneration and stimulation, blood flow and circulation is increased at the site of injury. A multitude of cellular events causes a cascade of anti-inflammatory responses to reduce the effects of inflammation and encourages the formation of new blood vessels and tissues, activating collagen and elastin production which also helps accelerate wound healing.

Our physiotherapist will be happy to discuss and advise you further with the relevant treatment plan.

How does near-infrared light accelerate recovery, reduce pain and lower inflammation?

RedGen's Near-Infrared light wavelengths range from 810-850nm. It is within this scientifically proven spectrum of light that healing occurs at a deeper level within tissues.

As with Red Light; Near-Infrared light stimulates the mitochondria in cells to produce more ATP (the energy currency of the cell). This increase in ATP production enhances cellular metabolism and accelerates the repair and regeneration of damaged tissues.

With consistent treatment, acceleration of ATP production causes a cascade of cellular events. Firstly, increased fibroblast activity enhances new collagen and elastin formation. Secondly, the immune response is efficiently modulated, helping reduce inflammation and pain, for an enhanced healing process.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

The RedGen Rehab course consists of between 5-16 treatment sessions lasting from 2-6 weeks. Most people will see the benefits of 2-3 sessions per week, but this is dependent on the condition being treated.

Your RedGen practitioner will agree a tailored and time-specific plan with you to ensure you get the best possible therapeutic outcome.

What should I expect during treatment?

For more effective results, the area of concern needs to be exposed and free of clothing so the Red and Near-Infrared Light wavelengths can penetrate the skin and surrounding tissue.

Near-Infrared Light wavelengths are not visible to the human eye, and you may notice that the LEDs emitting this light appear to be switched off. However, you will experience a warm heat sensation that is safe, non invasive, and creates no damage to the skin.
