Tennis & Golfers Elbow

Tendon pain in the elbow can be frustrating, especially when it interferes with work, training, or everyday tasks like gripping, lifting, or typing.

At RedGen, conditions like tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow are treated as tendon load management issues rather than simple inflammation or something that requires rest alone.

With the right assessment and a progressive rehabilitation approach, most people can fully recover and return to normal activity without ongoing flare-ups.

What tennis elbow & golfers elbow are

Both conditions involve tendon irritation at the elbow caused by repeated loading over time.

Tennis Elbow (lateral epicondylitis):

Pain on the outside of the elbow, commonly affecting gripping, lifting, and wris extension.

Golfer’s Elbow (Medial epicondylitis):

Pain on the inside of the elbow, often aggravated by gripping, wrist flexion, or repetitive hand use.

Despite the names, many people with these conditions do not play tennis or golf.

Common symptoms

Symptoms may include:

  1. localised ache at the elbow
  2. sharp pain with gripping or lifting
  3. weakness or reduced grip strength
  4. morning stiffness
  5. pain that eases with movement but flares later

Tendon pain often develops gradually and persists because tendons require specific loading, not rest alone, to recover.

Common contrubutors

Common contributors include:

  1. sudden increases in training or workload
  2. repetitive gripping or wrist activity
  3. poor load distribution through shoulder or wrist
  4. reduced tendon capacity over time
  5. insufficient recovery between sessions
  6. stress and fatigue affecting tissue tolerance

Understanding why your tendon is irritated allows treatment to be targeted effectively.

The RedGen approach to elbow tenson pain

Treatment follows the RedGen 4-Step Rehabilitation Framework: Assess, Relieve, Restore and Optimise.

Your rehabilitation may include:

  1. hands-on physiotherapy
  2. soft tissue techniques
  3. acupuncture where appropriate
  4. Class IV laser therapy when clinically indicated
  5. RedGen Prime™ full-body photobiomodulation to support inflammation
  6. control and recovery where appropriate
  7. early-stage exercise rehabilitation to stimulate tendon healing

When to seek treatment

Physiotherapy can help if:

  1. pain has lasted more than a few weeks
  2. gripping or lifting is painful
  3. symptoms are affecting work, training, or sleep
  4. previous rest or treatment has not helped
  5. you want a clear, structured plan

Early guidance usually leads to faster and more reliable recovery.
